Why clean beauty?

Our skin is our largest organ and it has no way of filtering hazardous substances. Products that you put on your skin can therefore enter your bloodstream. You don't want toxic, potentially harmful products in your body, do you?

The best way is to go all clean - skin care, makeup, hair care & body care. But you don't have to throw away all your other products just yet... Every little bit helps, gradually replace your cleanser or moisturizer and go completely clean along the way.

The face behind rhein

Coucou, I'm Kyria & I've been a professional make up artist and hairstylist for over 7 years now. In these years I have had the opportunity to work with many different brands and people.

I have become more aware not only of the harmful ingredients we use on our skin and bodies, but also of the unfairness and negative effects the beauty industry can have on people and nature.

That is why we at rheine go for honest and healthy products.

The Nope List

Our skin is the largest and one of the most important organs. Nearly 60% of all products we put on our skin are absorbed into our bloodstream - they affect our health and overall well-being, both negatively and positively. Many ingredients in traditional skin care, makeup and body products have been linked to various health problems, such as allergies, eczema, cancer, hormonal disruption and reproductive problems. These ingredients are not allowed here at rheine - we say no to products that contain ingredients that are not good for our body or nature.

Parabens are a common preservative used in various products to extend shelf life. But they can be associated with various diseases and conditions, for example: breast cancer, various skin conditions, UV sensitivity...
(formaldehyde, DMDM HYDANTOIN, UREA…)
Like parabens, but also formaldehyde, formaldehyde releasers (they turn into formaldehyde) can cause skin allergies, headaches, joint pain....
Aluminum salts are often used in deodorants to reduce sweat production. Research has shown that they can get into the skin and even the bloodstream. They are potentially carcinogenic products.
It is regularly used in nail polishes, cleansers, lotions... It is used to make them more supple, but has been linked to birth defects, respiratory problems and hormone disturbances.
These sunscreen ingredients can be harmful to human health, for example oxybenzone which can enter the bloodstream. It can mimic estrogen and thereby reduce sperm production in men and increase the risk of endometriosis in women.
Oh hell no - this one is not welcome. This nasty substance is often found in nail polish (our Karolin Van Loon products are toluene free!) and can be toxic to the immune system and cause birth defects.
(polyethylene glycol)
The name itself sounds harmless, but they certainly aren't. They are a by-product of petroleum jelly and can be carcinogenic and clog our pores increasing the chance of acne, pimples, clogged pores etc.
Often used to make cosmetics more foamy or creamy (think facial cleansers, day creams...). They can irritate the eyes and skin - but can also disrupt the hormonal system.
Often used in powder products, such as make-up powders, but can be harmful. Not only do they clog pores, but they may also contain asbestos, which is a known carcinogen (cancer-causing agent) and instigator of lung disease.
Have you ever heard of sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate (SLS/SLES)? They are foaming agents and they are in almost everything that foams - shampoo, toothpaste, soap... They can cause skin irritation or trigger allergies.
A synthetic antibacterial agent commonly found in toothpaste, soap, mouthwash... It has been linked to thyroid dysfunction and may be carcinogenic.
You wouldn't say it, but the average supermarket shampoo, body wash or makeup is full of small plastic beads. They have been added to these products to help you exfoliate, but they are really harmful. Not only are those microplastics often contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, which is carcinogenic to humans, but they are also not filtered by our sewage systems, meaning they can collect pollutants and end up in waterways, where they are consumed. by fish and sea creatures.

There are many more on our nope list, but now you know the most important!
