We don’t compromise & we only want to offer you the best. The tech has gotten that good - so there’s no excuse anymore to keep using products with potentially harmful ingredients (and there are so many!). Our standards, regarding formulations and ingredients, are high and all of our products meet them effortlessly (see our the nope list)
Why clean beauty?
Our biggest organ, our skin, doesn’t have a digestive system to filter out what reaches our circulatory system, the products you put on your skin can make their way into our bloodstream. You wouldn’t want any of these toxic, potentially very harmous products inside your body, right?
The best way is to go completely clean - skincare, makeup, haircare & bodycare. But you don’t have to throw all of your other products out yet, start small if you must. Switch out your cleanser or moisturizer and then fill in the gaps as you go.
The face behind rheine
Coucou, my name is Kyria & I’ve been a make-up artist and hair stylist for over seven years now. Over these years I got to work with many different kinds of brands and people.
I’ve become more aware, not only of the harmful ingredients we use on our skin and body, but also the dishonesty and malicious effects the beauty industry can have on human & nature.
This is why with rheine, we are going for honest and healthy products.
If you have any questions regarding products or in need of make-up advice - I’m here to help you through. You can chat with me, send me a message on email@example.com, instagram @rheine.store or whatsapp. I’m always happy to help!
The Nope List
Our skin is the largest and one of the most important organs. Almost 60% of all products we put on our skin gets absorbed into our bloodstream - they affect our health and overall well being, either negatively or positively. A lot of ingredients found in traditional skincare, makeup and body products have been linked to different health issues such as allergies, eczema, cancer, hormonal disruption, and reproductive problems. These ingredients are not allowed here at rheine - we say no to products that contain ingredients that aren’t beneficial; not for nature or for ourselves.
Parabens are common preservatives that are being used in different kind of products for extending their shelf life. But they are potentially linked to different kind of diseases and conditions, for example: breast cancer, different skin conditions, UV sensitivity…
harmful preservatives (formaldehyde, DMDM HYDANTOIN, UREA…)
Such as parabens, but also formaldehyde, formaldehyde releasers (they will turn into formaldehyde) can cause skin allergies, headaches, joint pain…
Aluminium salts are often used in deodorants to reduce the production of sweat.
Studies have shown that they can enter your skin and even your bloodstream. They are possible carcinogenic products.
This one is a regular in nail polishes, cleansers, lotions.. It’s used in these products to make them more flexible. It’s linked with birth defects and respiratory problems and hormone disruptions.
chemical UV filters, such as octinoxate & oxybenzone
These sunscreen ingredients can be harmful for the human health for example oxybenzone can enter the bloodstream. It can mimic estrogen and therefore reduce sperm production in males and increase risk of endometriosis in females. Our products use mineral UV filters instead!
Oh hell no - this one is not welcome. Often found in nail polishes (our from Karolin Van Loon are toluene free!) this nasty can be toxic to the immune system & can cause birth defects.
PEG (polyethyleen glycol)
The name itself, sounds harmless, but they’re definitely not. They are a byproduct from petroleum jelly and can be carcinogenic and clog our pores increasing the likelihood of acne, pimples, clogged pores etc.
diethanolamine (DEA), monoethanolamine (MEA), and triethanolamine (TEA)
Often used to make cosmetics more foamy or creamy (think of facial cleansers, daycreams…).. They can irritate the eyes and skin - but can also interfere with the hormonal system.
Is often used in powder products, such as makeup powders, but can be harmful. They not only clog pores but can have asbestos in them, which is a known carcinogen and instigator of lung diseases.
Have you ever heard of sodium lauryl sulphate or sodium laureth sulphate (SLS / SLES)? They are foaming agents and can be found in almost everything foamy - shampoo, toothpaste, soaps… They can cause skin irritation or trigger allergies.
An synthetic antibacterial agent often found in toothpaste, soaps, mouthwash… It is linked to thyroid function disruption and can be carcinogenic.
you wouldn't say, but your drugstore shampoo, body wash or makeup is full with tiny plastic beads. They’ve been added to these products to help you exfoliate but they’re really harmful. Not only are those microplastics often contaminated with 1,4-dioxane , which is a human carcinogenic, but also not filtered by our sewage systems, meaning they can collect pollutants and travel into waterways, where they’re consumed by fish and marine animals.
There are a lot more on our nope list, but now you know about the most important ones!
